French Sampler

Last summer I was commissioned to do an oil painting of a guest house in France. I had all the materials ready and it would have been relatively straightforward…..

However, the needles and threads called and next thing I knew I was designing a cross stitch sampler into the night……At this stage I hadn’t considered how long it might take to sew. Thankfully my mother took on this challenging task, working with a single embroidery thread on 32 count Belfast linen. The sampler is now finished, framed, looking mighty fine and heading across the channel next week to its new home in St Valery sur Somme.

I am now thinking I would like to design a new sampler based on my home, garden and village. I might also consider commissions, just the design as I don’t think we will be able to squeeze in any more cross stitch at the moment!!!
